Week 4/ 12 of Beginners' schedule

Sunday 17th September

Time: 2215
Resting heart rate: 52bpm
Air temperature: 17 C
Run: 26 minutes
Walk: 4 minutes

Up till tonight I have been lapping (2.1 km) fairly consistently every 10 minutes of the run. Tonight my first lap was 9 minutes, 2nd was 10 minutes and I managed to complete the third lap with the remaining 7 minutes of running and 4 minutes of walking. This was still within my comfort zone, as Art recommends, so it would appear that my fitness is improving. On the other hand, I'm still not doing any stretching.

Tuesday 19th September

Time: 0615
Run: 30 mins
Walk: 2 mins

This morning I ran with a colleague. Instead of pounding the same old road we went cross country. Easier on the knees, but we had to watch out not to turn ankles as the ground was quite rutted in areas.

Friday 22nd September

Run: 30 minutes
Walk: 7 minutes

Run: 20 minutes
Walk: 10 minutes

Thursday 14th September

Time: 0620
Run: 22 minutes
Walk: 8 minutes

Term has started this week and already we see how hard it is to maintain a training program in competition against real life. I'd better do 24 minutes running on Saturday and 26 on Sunday to try and get back on track.

Saturday 16th September

Time: 1730
Run: 24 minutes
Walk: 6 minutes

Week 2/ 10 of Beginners' schedule

Sunday 3rd September

Weight: 92 kg
Resting heart rate: 60 bpm
Air temperature: 15 C
Time: 2235
Run: 14 minutes
Walk: 16 minutes

I was a bit worried earlier today as I had a few twinges in my right knee. By this evening these had stopped so I decided to run. No problems during or afterwards. I'm completing about 2 km in 10 minutes which is slower than I was doing 2 1/2 years ago (8 minutes for the same distance); not surprising given the complete absence of exercise in that period. Tonight though I was able to pick up the pace for the last 4 minutes of the run, it felt really good.

Tuesday 5th September
Resting heart rate: 60 bpm
Air temperature: 22 C
Time: 2140

After the 30 minutes, my right groin was hurting rather. Although I did some stretching during the holiday, I've been laying off it recently as we are in preparation time for the start of term next Monday. I must try to do more stretching, at least on the non-running days.
